The Challenge
The construction of Envision AESC’s second UK Gigafactory in Sunderland represents a major milestone in the UK’s transition to electric vehicles and clean energy. The scale and complexity of the project demanded precise engineering delivery, seamless coordination, and stringent health and safety measures throughout.
For Quora Group, this was not only our largest contract to date, it was a chance to demonstrate our ability to perform at the very highest level alongside one of the UK’s most established MEP specialists, SES Engineering Services.
We were tasked with delivering critical mechanical infrastructure for this next-generation facility, supporting its goal to produce high-performance lithium-ion batteries for the global EV market.
The Solution
Working in close collaboration with SES Engineering Services, Quora Group provided a full mechanical package to support the Gigafactory’s demanding operational needs. Our scope of works included:
- Installation of chilled water systems
- Mechanical pipework infrastructure
- Natural gas and heating systems
- Full commissioning and system testing
We embedded rigorous health and safety standards into every stage of delivery. From comprehensive risk assessments and start-right procedures to stringent PPE controls and environmental safeguards, our site teams ensured safe, high-quality execution throughout.
Our operatives underwent extensive training and competency checks, supported by structured briefings, debriefs, and method statement reviews to maintain the highest possible standards on site.
Outcomes & Benefits
Our work directly supports the operational readiness of one of the UK’s most advanced battery manufacturing facilities. Through careful project management, technical excellence, and on-site collaboration, we helped ensure that the mechanical systems were installed and commissioned to meet exacting standards, on time and on budget.
This project has not only strengthened our relationship with SES Engineering Services, but also reaffirmed our position as a trusted delivery partner in high-value, technically complex projects within the energy and manufacturing sectors.
We’re particularly proud of the standards of safety, communication, and quality assurance maintained across all phases of the project.
